WATER RAIL
Water Rail’ (pictured above) is a club rowing boat which was purchased from funds kindly donated by the Ryley family. The boat is in memory of John Ryley who was a member of the KYC for over 20 years. Living at Forfeits in Keyhaven, he and his family explored the South Coast from Dunkirk to Scilly in his Westerly Konsort, ‘Katisha’. He was a gifted cartoonist, and many will remember his sketches, often pinned up behind the bar. His favourite bird was the water rail, often seen hereabouts, hence the name. ‘Water Rail’ is available for all Club use and will be kept on the pontoon in the season.
‘Water Rail’ is suitable for use for teaching youngsters to row and for excursions in the harbour. However, it should not be used as a yacht tender and left tied to moorings. There is a booking out file available on the table in the corridor. A donation of £2.50 per trip is required, for the upkeep of ‘Water Rail’.
